What are the types of basketball court flooring?
Basketball courts can be in two different types; indoor and outdoor. And the type of flooring changes according to this difference. Because indoor and outdoor courts require different necessities. There are three main types of court flooring and the last one has ;

- Multi-purpose court flooring,

Basketball courts need to have some special features. As the ball has to bounce in the game, the court features have to adapt to this aim. So, basketball courts should be flexible, and also absorb ball shocks. On the other hand, hardwood flooring has another important feature of non-slipperiness. This is very important for the nature of the basketball game.
Hardwood basketball flooring requires a special construction process in order to ensure elasticity. Because elasticity ensures the play and also prevents sports injuries. This flooring is the official type for all kinds of basketball federations. All official games are held on hardwood courts.
On the other hand, another important feature of the hardwood court is that this is an indoor flooring type. Because hardwood gets affected by sun, rain, and other types of outsider conditions. So, hardwood flooring is only possible for indoor and saloon basketball courts.
Asphalt Court Flooring
This is a traditional and first court type for all the basketball players. Because, asphalt courts are nearly everywhere; schools, streets, parks, or playgrounds. It is because asphalt courts are cheap and very easy to construct. Also standard asphalt surface is strong and elastic enough to provide the game. On the other hand, and most importantly, it has the ability to endure all kinds of harsh and normal weather conditions. So, asphalt is perfect for outdoor applications.
Asphalt courts also advantageous about preventing sports injuries. It is also possible to construct these courts with other colors. But, even the asphalt courts can’t endure outside affect so long and after some time, it will break down. Cracks, chips, and other types of surface problems will occur and the court will be out of service.
Multi-purpose Court Flooring
These other types of flooring have become very common in the last years. The best feature of these flooring is, multi-purpose courts are proper for many types of games. The main material of these fields is concrete. The beginning of constructing these fields starts with a slab of concrete. Normally, asphalt would be another type of foundation material, but it isn’t strong enough. So, concrete will create a sturdy foundation for proper application. Then the distinctive part will begin; surface. Normally, the surface of these fields is a type of multi-purpose plastic flooring. According to this plastic, the flooring types change. Now we will see the most common types of flooring.
Acrylic Court Flooring
This is one of the most common types of flooring that we can see on the streets, schools, and playgrounds. The application of acrylic is very easy and also the cheapest when compared to the other types. Acrylic court flooring is durable against all weather conditions. Also, it is elastic and non-slippery. Acrylic flooring is very cost-effective for the highest performance with the least cost.
Tartan flooring is also one of the most common and preferred basketball court types. It is very durable but very hard for application. Tartan is elastic, absorbent, non-slippery, and UV-resistant. Different colors are also possible, like red, brown, blue, or green. This is also helpful for landscaping.
Polyurethane Court Flooring
The polyurethane basketball court is the main type of multi-purpose flooring. This is a special plastic application on a concrete foundation. Polyurethane is possible for both indoor and outdoor applications. The surface has all the benefits that we mentioned for other floorings, like non-slippery, durability, elasticity. These fields also resistant to abrasion. With the choices of so many kinds of colors, polyurethane is very good for also landscaping.
