What is Cricket, Its History, and Features of the Cricket Field?
Cricket is another bat-and-ball play, like baseball, that is played between two opposing teams with 11 players. The game is held on a field which is called the cricket field, at the center of which has a 20-meter pitch. There are two wickets at the two ends of the pitch. And these wickets comprise of two bails that are balancing on three slumps.
Cricket is a little complicated because it is a British-originated game and it is generally popular in the commonwealth countries. The aim of the game is to score runs as much as possible. There are two roles in the game; batting side and fielding side. Both teams replace the roles in different periods, which called innings. During one period, the players of the batting team try to complete runs, while the players of the fielding team try to dismiss the batters.
In order to score a run, a batsman hits the ball with the bat and sends it away from the fielders. So, while the fielders try to catch the ball and hit the wicket, striker and non-striker (batsman and his teammate) run the length of the pitch (22 yards or 20 meters). They cross each other and arrive at the other and of the pitch. This event is a score. The number of times the batsman runs the pitch counts as scores.
On the other hand, the fielding team tries to hit the wicket with the ball. And if they manage this before the batsman completes a run, they manage to dismiss that player. When the fielding team dismisses all rivals, the innings ends and the teams switch the roles. Both teams play the roles equally, and the one who scores most wins the game.
General History of Cricket

According to the case, the game was being played by boys in Surrey, England around 1550. By the time passes, the game spread first to the United Kingdom, and then to the commonwealth countries that makes it an international sport.
The Features of the Cricket Field
A cricket field is a large grass area that professional teams play their matches. The field is generally in an oval shape. But there are also some different shapes like circle, longer oval, or some irregular forms. There are no certain dimensions, but the diameter of the field ranges from 137m to 150 m. A cricket field consists of some subparts, which are;
- Pitch,
- Close-infield,
- Infield,
- Outfield,
- Boundaries.
The most important part of this field is the pitch which stands in the middle of the field. So, what is a cricket pitch made of? It is generally from natural or artificial components as long as it is flat. The surface of the pitch is generally clay roll or grass surface. And the rest of the field is grass. Traditionally, the whole field was natural grass. But today, most of the fields are artificial grass.
Artificial grass in cricket fields and pitches has so many advantages. First of all, artificial grass is a durable and high-technological material for the cricket fields. Also, artificial grass provides a perfect surface and leveling of the field. On the other hand, artificial grass provides an excellent bounce capability. So, these features of the cricket field improve the quality of the game by letting players show their talents.
On the other hand, artificial grass is very efficient in preventing sports injuries. As the surface is soft and perfect for unintended falling, these will help the players to play longer without any injuries.
