One New Zealand Stadium at Te Kaha has reached a defining milestone with the successful installation of the Hatko Hybridgrass pitch.

This phase required a high level of coordination with Terrafirma Turf to ensure the harvest and transport of the specialized seed blend met the unique microclimate demands of the new venue. To ensure a rapid pitch conversion, the Hatko Hybridgrass sods were established off-site at a specialized turf farm. The system utilizes a proprietary blend of three different seed varieties, specifically selected for their resilience.
Following a meticulous growth phase, the turf was harvested into large-scale rolls, each measuring approximately 11 meters by 1.2 meters and weighing 750kg. Upon arrival, the sods were expertly installed over the integrated ventilation and irrigation systems, completing the stadium’s advanced subgrade structure. The successful execution of this meticulous growth phase, harvesting, and installation is a testament to the rigorous planning and professional cooperation between all parties involved.
To ensure the surface remains resilient year-round, ten misting fans manage air circulation and temperature, while specialized lighting rigs provide the necessary supplementary light for the turf to thrive under the permanent roof structure.
Successfully delivering a pitch of this magnitude highlights the importance of technical synergy and professional cooperation between all parties. With the playing surface now established, Te Kaha is equipped with the elite-level pitch necessary to host international sport and global events starting in 2026.
